Lawn Mowers For Senior Citizens.

Now that I am 65 I don’t want to be pushing a heavy lawn mower around on a hot day, or any day for that matter. It is not that I can’t do it, but at my age, I think I have earned enough “kudos” to be able to sit on my bum while mowing the lawn.

Staying active and getting outside is important for me and as much as I enjoy gardening, I realize that I’m not 25 anymore. However, it is important for me to maintain my activity, mobility, and independence.

For me, working in the yard and gardening is something I can do at the same time as getting a bit of exercise.

But sometimes the equipment and tools for maintaining my yard can be a bit much. I can still do everything and don’t want to change that, but I don’t want to be carrying around 50lb lawnmowers or any other heavy power tools.

When I’m shopping for a lawn mower I want a few things that will make my life easier in the garden. These are the basic questions I want answered.

  • Price
  • Cutting height
  • Deck size
  • Weight
  • Warranty
  • Servicing
  • Electric or gas
  • Easy start
  • Comfort or ease of operation.

Let’s Go Shopping.

From being a staunch gas-powered lawnmower man, (for push lawnmowers) I have switched to electric because of the difference in weight. Cordless electric lawn mowers are a lot lighter than traditional gas-powered lawn mowers and all my friends have switched or are in the process of switching to electric. The other advantage is how easy the electric lawnmowers are to start. A push of a button gets you ready to mow, not like the many years I suffered pulling on the cord of an older gas-powered model.

I also look for a quality lawn mower that can easily be adjusted for cutting height. And ‘deck size” relates to the size of the area you can cut. So the wider the deck size, the wider deck size allows you to cut more grass in one sweep and affects the time spent mowing. The bigger the deck size, the less time it takes to mow your lawn. However, I don’t want something too big as it won’t fit through my gate from the back to the front garden.

Some Features of Electric lawn Mowers.

Many lawnmowers have multiple height settings which can be adjusted by shifting a lever. Some types include choke devices in addition to automatic height adjustments. The best way to cut grass on a slope, though, is with a manual height adjustment, so it makes sense to have one. Additionally, manual height adjustment is the best option if you are prone to tripping.

The future is undoubtedly cordless lawnmowers. Finding outlets to plug your mower in takes less time with cordless, and it is unquestionably safer.

The lawnmowers we are going to look at today are lightweight push mowers, ride-on lawnmowers, and smart lawnmowers.

Top 5 Lawn Mowers.

One of the best gifts I ever received was my ride-on lawn mower. My riding lawn mower is absolutely perfect for me because it’s comfortable, fun, and easy to use! Who knew mowing your lawn could be this much fun? And when my grandson comes over, he begs me to let him mow the lawn. Who knew I could get him to mow the lawn and not have to pay an allowance

Ride-on lawnmowers are great for the larger lawn. They generally come in gasoline models and that is ok because the weight is not an issue for these models.

This little baby is fun and comfortable. This is for those who still prefer gas and it is rated at 15 horsepower. It is automatic and has a 26-inch cutting width. This ride-on mower is 2-wheel drive and comes with a 12-month warranty and online sales service support. Gasoline Ride on Mower Zero Turn Lawn Mower with Hydraulic Gearbox CJ30GZZHL150.

This is a more expensive model but it has a 4 stroke motor which I find to be more reliable. This mower also comes with a two-year warranty. It comes standard with the large grass catcher and has a 30-inch cutting width. To find out more about this product or to purchase click on the above “Buy Amazon” link.

Robotic Lawnmowers.

One of the newest developments in lawn care is robotic mowers. Smart mower use typically results in grass that is much greener, healthier, and more resilient. By using a robotic mower, you can avoid problems with cross-contamination in your grass and use less fertilizer and water.

Because they run on batteries, the environment is better because there are fewer emissions. Additionally, it will result in reduced noise levels and fuel consumption (traditional petrol mowers account for around 5% of gasoline use in the USA).

A fantastic example of a robotic lawn mower is the Husqvarna Automower. More details are available here.

Husqvarna Automower 430XH Robotic Lawn Mower, Medium – Large Yards (0.8 Acre)

The future of lawn care is revealed. To make lawn maintenance simple, this Husqvarna Automower from the X-Line Series operates quietly and on its own. Additionally, you may manage it via a smartphone and smart home appliances.

Get a gorgeous lawn around-the-clock with this robotic lawnmower. It cuts less grass more regularly to preserve a carpet-like appearance and is suitable for extremely complicated medium to large yards with steep slopes.

For more than 25 years, Husqvarna has led the world in robotic lawn mowing. Mowers from the X-Line Series come standard with LED headlights, rubber bumpers, unique wheel caps, GPS navigation, and theft tracking.

Electric Push Mowers.

With the above models ranging in price from about $1,700 to $3,900, you may find the price to be getting a bit steep. This is where the cordless electric push mowers come into their own. Not only are they considerably cheaper, but they are arguably healthier for you and the environment

A quality lawnmower can make the difference between a good and a bad mowing experience. Electric lawnmowers are now a more prevalent choice. With electric lawnmowers, there are a lot of factors to take into account, but ease of use, cutting options, charge time, and added features come first. Here are my top selections for the best electric lawn mowers that are currently online.

Final Thoughts.

When it comes to selecting a mower, there are a few things to think about. It may be easier to use an electric mower simply because you don’t have to remember to purchase gas or when it’s time to fill the gas tank up.

Another perk of an electric mower is it typically weighs less than a gas mower, making it easy to move around. However, if I get one more salesperson saying they are a great “seniors” mower, I will scream. lol.

An electric mower is more compact and easier to store and easier to operate. You may find that electric mowers, especially cordless ones, are cost-efficient as well as environmentally friendly.

But I still have a place in my heart for gas-powered models. The fresh smell of cut grass along with the smell of petrol brings back memories of days gone by. So, whatever you decide to buy, just make sure you don’t say they are good “senior lawnmowers.”
